Katha
Katha has been working in the areas of children’s education, teacher training, and book publishing since 1988. Their education model puts the child at the center of all learning and makes learning a fun, creative, holistic experience and also relevant to the world outside the classroom. They also train teachers to creatively engage students using Katha’s Story Pedagogy and to design classroom activities that make learning interactive and fun. They have published more than 300 illustrated children’s stories out of which 124 have been recommended collectively by CBSE and NCERT.
Participant Profile: Parvinder Kaur (Executive Director)
Parvinder currently oversees all of Katha’s educational and publishing programs including the Katha Lab School, the I Love Reading program and Katha’s teacher training program called KREATE (Katha Reading Excellence and Teacher Education). Ms. Kaur joined Katha as a volunteer in 2000 and worked her way from being an English teacher, to a part of Katha’s Senior Management Team. Parvinder has also headed multiple programs, a few of them being an Innovative Educational Program under MHRD and an educational program under UNICEF and UNESCO. Ms. Kaur has a B.A. in English Honors and an M.A. in English Literature from Delhi University, India. She has traveled and gained extensive experience working with NGO partners and Government Education Departments in different districts in the states of MP, Bihar, Maharashtra.
