Consortium for DEWATS Dissemination (CDD) Society
CDD Society's mission is to provide robust and sustainable post-toilet infrastructure and services for improved health and a cleaner environment. Since its inception in 2005 CDD Society has been implementing decentralized sanitation infrastructure projects, conducting R&D to develop practical solutions, developing capacities of stakeholders, and providing handholding services to ULBs for implementing policies/regulations through collaborations with international and national funding partners.
Participant Profile: Sasanka Velidandla (Chief Executive)
Sasanka has 16 years of experience in the industry and development sector. Sasanka has sought to demonstrate self-sustaining economic models for managing the solid waste in mid-sized cities. The pilot projects undertaken by his team are now going mainstream and the resultant policy interventions are being adopted by one state government. Sasanka has been working with CDD Society since 2010 – helping develop projects, training modules, and mentoring young engineers. He was instrumental in deploying a technical innovation called the Vortex System, in co-ordination with a research partner, to reduce the foot-print of anaerobic sewage treatment plants by 50%. Before 2009, Sasanka was working with General Motors, Detroit, USA as an Engineer for about 8 years.
