Barefoot College (“BCI” or “Social Welfare Research Centre”) is a global NGO that provides community development solutions to the most impoverished rural populations in the world’s least developed countries by tapping the wisdom, skills and resourcefulness of the poor themselves. BCI focuses on the demystification of technology to sustainably empower impoverished communities by recruiting illiterate or semi-literate, those not formally educated and effectively training them to build and maintain a wide variety of life-changing technologies. Only technologies that can be understood and controlled by rural community have been introduced to improve the quality of life of the poor.
